Ahir Bhairab Borthakur Foundation for Biodiversity Research & Communications, organized a Cycle Rickshaw Rally
With an aim to disseminate messages on conservation of the biodiversity, M/s Ahir Bhairab Borthakur Foundation for Biodiversity Research & Communications, a newly set up Guwahati based trust organized a Cycle Rickshaw Rally on the occasion of World Environment day today.
Borthakur was a Guwahati-based journalist who passed away recently. Started his career as a column writer to many newspapers, Ahir later used to work for New Delhi based Down To Earth magazine. He also worked as a content development and screenplay writer for various media outlets.
Some other publications where he was involved include RAVE, Billboard, Incredible India magazine, HolidayIQ, etc. A graduate with Masters in Geography, Ahir did his post graduation in Journalism from New Delhi YMCA. At the time of his demise, Ahir, 39, was working for Ne Hi-fi (Focus TV Group) as a creative director.
The rally highlighting the need to promote sustainable ecofriendly modes of transport such as cycle and rickshaw was flagg ed off at 10.30 am in the morning from Khanapara by the Commissioner, Guwahati Municipal Corporation in the presence of several other voluntary organizations including the principal organizer M/s Centre for Rural development.
Shri S Viswanathan , IAS, Commissioner, Guwahati Municipal Corporation, Dr. Pradip Sharma, Executive Director, Center for Rural Development, Shri Manjit Kr. Sarma, Trustee of ABB Foundation for Biodiversity Research & Communications spoke briefly during the flagging off function and urged the school children and citizens present on the occasion to contribute towards various nature conservation efforts.
The rally which also saw participation of around 100 nos. of Deepbahan Rickshaws promoted by Centre for Rural Development under an award winning social project ended at Dispur and during its course through the busy G. S. Road generated awareness among the public on prevention of vehicular and sound pollution created by various motor vehicles.
