UPSC topper Ira Singhal was felicitated by Assam Chief minister Tarun Gogoi at a function organised in Guwahati recently. The function was organised by Shishu Sarothi, an ngo and SM Group.
The list of distinguished persons included MGVK Bhanu, IAS, Addl. Chief Secretary, Government of Assam, Narayan Konwar, IAS, Commissioner, GMC, Sharat Kumar Jain, CMD, SM Group, Satyamrit Kagkti, Chairperson, Shishu Sarothi, Rajeev Agarwal, Director, SM Group.
The event was attended by aspiring students from across the city who later on want to go ahead to conquer the Civil Services. Ira Singhal while including these students in a friendly chat, reached out to them.
Chief minister Tarun Gogoi addressed the crowd and encouraged everyone to be more aware about the rising concerns related to various disabilities in the state. Chief Minister also took tour of the Shishu Sarothi and interacted with staff members, children and parents. Praising the work of Shishu Sarothi, he also stated that our society has come far in terms of dealing with things like disability with more sensitivity. He applauded and encouraged the rising sensitivity in the Northeast regarding various disabilities. Concerned about the welfare of our disabled students, the Chief Minister also encouraged the younger generation to educate themselves in the matters of disability.
The event included an interactive session with Ira Singhal and the students of various different schools across the city who sought her opinions as how to better prepare themselves in the future if they want to crack the civil services. Ira addressed the young crowd to continue their hard work and efforts and never to give up. In her talk she mentioned how she never let her disability be an excuse and she encouraged the students to do the same. While addressing the students, Ira stated how she’s had a very normal life and how that was mostly possible due to the support of her family and friends. Ira’s childhood dream was to be a part of the administrative services and which is why she had left her corporate job to serve her country in her own way.
