In a bid to reach out to mediapersons on New Year’s Day, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal appealed for co-operation from the fourth pillar of democracy. He said that media is an important institution and it can help channelise information in the right direction.
Facing widespread criticism for the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019, Sonowal government is on the back foot and is trying to reaffirm its image in building a strong and inclusive Assam.
Interacting with mediapersons, Sonowal stressed, “We are committed to making Assam corruption free, pollution free and foreigner free.” He spoke about the measures taken by the government to bring about changes in the socio-economic fields. He had especially laid importance on enriching the literature of the smaller communities by announcing fellowships for young writers from various ethnic communities.
In a scathing attack on his critics, he reiterated that he is a son of the soil and can never betray his motherland. He said that opposition parties like the Congress and the Left has launched a vicious campaign against CAA which is misleading the masses.
He further urged the students to lay stress on education and competitive examinations in order to build a strong Assam.
