When the teachers gave her the good news, the three-year-old was completely thrilled. Geeta (name changed) is now eagerly looking forward to getting her set of books and colour pencils, uniforms, school bag and water bottle, and begin her education in a proper school in the neighbourhood. Geeta used to sadly watch other children of her age go to school every day from her window sitting at home while her poor mother was busy earning their daily bread by working in other people’s homes. Thanks to her benefactor Madhu Goenka who has agreed to support her education, Geeta who lives in a slum and whose mother works as a domestic help will be able to continue her education.
SHE Trust (Scholars Home Education Trust) was set up in 2014 as an off-shoot of Scholars Home Public School by its Principal – Florence Handique Rabha, with the mission of supporting the educational needs of the girl child. Since its beginning in 1996, Scholars Home Public School has been catering to students from regular backgrounds. However, the school subsequently decided to support one relevant social cause and chose to also work for educating girl children from needy backgrounds.
Earlier, Lioness Madhu Sethia was the first to join the mission of SHE Trust by pledging her support and sponsoring the education expenses of Ankita (name changed) – the daughter of a daily wage earner. And it was during Madhu Sethia’s second visit to SHPS when Madhu Goenka accompanied her and learned about it. She immediately expressed keen interest and followed it up. SHE Trust is grateful to people like Lioness Madhu Sethia and Lioness Madhu Goenka for providing wings to these little girls and helping them to fulfill their dreams. The Trust seeks the invaluable help of all citizens in this noble venture.
