The Rivers Preparatory School celebrated its foundation day with a colourful cultural programme presented by tiny tots in the city recently. Speaking on the occasion, Reshma N C Shah, Director, informed the audience that Rivers Education Foundation, a non-profit organisation, was set up with the aim of bringing good quality education within the reach of the lower and middle income group for who it is difficult to send their children to branded schools with steep rate of fees. Besides classroom education, the Foundation lays emphasis on character building, imparting of values, and imbibing leadership qualities in the children.
Reshma Shah, who is a post graduate in English Literature from JNU, Delhi is a trained edupreneur. She had served as a content ID project manager and team leader in Magic Software P Ltd during 1998-2001, and as creative director in Apple Tree Services during 2003-2010. She relocated herself back to Assam to fulfil her dream to expand the activities of her Foundation in various areas of Assam so that more and more children can benefit from Rivers Schools.
The chief guest on the occasion, Assam’s famous theatre personality Pakeeza Begum, urged upon the parents and guardians present on the occasion to encourage and support their children’s interest in extracurricular activities such as music, dramatics, dance, art, sports and literature that would enrich their personality in the long run. She also offered training opportunity in her institute of drama for the students of the School.
Kaniz Fatima Laskar, former PRO of RIST, highlighted the role of the mothers in the upbringing and training of the children. The children and teachers presented a colourful cultural programme on the occasion. Chief guest and other dignitaries present on the occasion gave away the prizes to winners of various competitions that were organised on the occasion of the foundation day.
Chandamita Sharma, Principal, offered the formal vote of thanks. Zaheen Rafia Shah anchored the event with confidence and passion.
