Shishu Sarothi celebrated World Environment Day on June 5, 2015 at Birubari with a plantation drive. Along with the staff and students of Shishu Sarothi, the entire neighbourhood of Birubari area were involved in the community drive. Shishu Sarothi, a premier centre for rehabilitation and training for multiple disabilities is a registered non-profit voluntary organization that has been working in the Northeast region of India since 1987.
Students from the neighbourhood school Assam Valley, Birubari also joined in for the plantation drive. This is one of the first steps towards many upcoming environment friendly and sustainable activities that Shishu Sarothi is taking up in recent times. The Guwahati Municipal Corporation has been regularly involved in cleaning the drain which runs in front of Shishu Sarothi and Ramakrishna Mission Road.
Captain Robin Bordoloi, MLA, Guwahati East and Runumi Gogoi, Chairperson, Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (ACPCR) have also taken the initiative of paving the Ramakrishna Mission Road, Birubari. Shishu Sarothi is coming up with a self-sustainable canteen in the lines of “reuse, reduce and recycle” model wherein the produce from the organic kitchen garden present in the premises will be used.
The idea behind the event was to create awareness amongst the community as a whole to be involved in keeping the entire area clean and green on the lines of the Chief Minister’s MANASA scheme.
