Fashion designer and social entrepreneur Omi Gurung (Sandeep Gurung) from Sikkim was conferred with The Telegraph Northeast Excellence Award 2017 at a function in Guwahati recently. He received the award for his outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Sikkim and the Northeast region.
The Telegraph Northeast Excellence Awards 2017 is a pioneering and unique initiative from the house of ABP Group, India’s leading media conglomerate. It is a unique award that recognizes and acknowledges the contribution made by individuals in varied sectors across the eight States of Northeast for helping lead their State and the region towards growth and development.
The award was presented by Dhurba Mukherjee, Vice President, The Telegraph to Omi. He also made a presentation about his venture “Green Gangtok” and appealed everyone to be eco-conscious and be the change. He said, “Small changes do make big impacts and when you change, the world around you changes.”
Gurung said, “Some awards are an institution in itself for the credibility it holds in our society and this award is certainly one of them. I believe the list of awardees do speak volumes about the award given. However, there are many awards which are merely a merrymaking function and nothing more. All the awards I have received are rightfully earned by me. It is an acknowledgment of my hard work and determination.”
The award ceremony was attended and graced by eminent personalities and crème de la crème of Northeast. Omi had received the Young Naturalist Award at Balipara Foundation Awards 2017 held at Vivanta by Taj, Guwahati last year.
