A storytelling session was held at the Shishu Sarothi premises recently. The session was conducted by Vijaylakshmi Nagaraj, who is an educational consultant, author and storyteller. She believes that storytelling is an excellent therapy and she has used this to help children in conflict areas, cancer patients and tsunami orphans with positive results.
She has authored a number of children books and has written articles on children’s literature. Some of her books include, Jhilmil the Butterfly, The Natural Wonders of India and Sun Magic. She is also one of the founder-members of Booklore: Bangalore’s Big Little Book Club.
Arman Ali, the Executive Director of Shishu Sarothi welcomed Vijaylakshmi and she was felicitated by a student of Shishu Sarothi. She narrated few of her stories to the children with the help of puppets, toys and songs which helped the children in understanding the stories well.
In the hour long session she communicated with the children through her puppets and told them stories about animals and birds. She also donated some of her books to the school as a gift and was delighted with the response and love she received at Shishu Sarothi. The session ended with a vote of thanks.
